1st Graders create O'Keeffe poppies

We read a beautiful children's book about Georgia and her observations of nature, and started our giant poppies! First we painted huge red flowers after viewing a reproduction of Georgia O'Keffe's "Poppy". On day 2 we added orange accents and the green leaves. Day 3 was assembly day where students cut out their poppies and assembled them, using oil pastel to add the details of the black centers of their flowers. We have a beautiful garden of poppies in the Art room! I love looking at the way each student's work is unique.
